This session, NASW-NC, as well as several other behavioral health professionals are working on a bill geared toward provisional licensees with the help of the Department of Health and Human Services.

There are two parts to the bill:
1) A simple name change- We have had difficulty getting the Center for Medicaid Services to recognize Provisionals as a full license. They have recommended we change the term provisional to associate. The first part of the bill changes P-LCSW to Licensed Clinical Social Worker-Associate (LCSW-A). Nothing else changes- ONLY the name!
2) Direct Enrollment- This is a HUGE success for P’s! We no longer have to deal with the stress of renewing H Codes. Every Associate will get their own number for billing!
This is very important: The bill is still in draft phase and we do not know when it will take affect. For now, continue to bill and use the term provisional until we know otherwise. There is no set date for this- it has to get through session before any changes are made!
We will keep you updated with action alerts to contact your legislators about getting this bill passed.
