By Kay Castillo, Director of Advocacy, Policy, and Legislation
While legislators had another slow week, big things did happen.
1) Legislators, along with the Governor, decided on a final spending number. This means, they agree to keep the budget at $21.74 billion. This is lower than the House and Governor’s original proposals but approximately 3.1% higher than last year’s spending levels. What we do not know is what programs will be maintained to keep this figure. As a reminder, legislators have until August 31st to come up with a final plan.
2) The House rejected the Senate’s latest Medicaid Reform plan outlined in House Bill 372. As a result 15 legislators were appointed to a conference committee to decided on a final plan. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Take Action! The message to send to the conference committee is editable so please incorporate any information you would like or send our drafted message as is!
