Legislative Session, Week 2
Legislators began their first full week of session. However, they spent the majority of the week learning about committees and meeting in caucus’. This week, we have 3 big calls to action! Please contact your legislators and contact the committee members listed below!
Bills with action:
Senate Bill 4: No NC Exchange/No Medicaid Expansion: This bill did pass the Senate. It was referred to House Health and Human Services (click here for a list of who is on that committee). The Governor has asked the House to slow down on this bill and the House has agreed. The House will be looking at the fiscal impact of the bill. Please Contact HHS Committee members and let them know your opposition to this bill! The House will be taking up this bill on Tuesday, Feb. 12th at 10am!
House Bill 4: Unemployment Insurance Fund Solvency & Program Changes: This bill had a LOT of media attention this week! It passed the House with no amendments; despite Democrats tries to amend it. It passed Senate Finance Committee and is headed for the Senate floor on 2/12/13. It is not too late to contact your Senators to let them know your opposition! See our latest post on the issue here.
House Bill 5: Temporary Funding Extension for Group Homes:This bill passed the House last week and was sent to Senate Appropriations. Please contact committee members and ask them to hear this bill! Senators need to be pushed as they do not feel the same sense of urgency about this bill that we do!
